Livestock updates!

Livestock updates!

It has been quite a bit since I updated and posted pictures! I have been traveling ALLLLL over speaking at clubs and events, and have had very, very little time home on weekends. I am home for the Summer, except for two trips, so expect a lot of updates and a much fuller stocklist! Coming up soon is the American Cichlid Association Convention in Springfield, Mass. I hope to see some of you there. It is a great time and supports Cichlid...

Some fish updates

Whew, winter is not kind! Sickness, computer issues, death, snow, freezing temperatures! That being said, I am working on building up the ole stocklist, and am traveling a ton in the upcoming weeks. Here are a couple fish pics from around the fishroom, some of which will be coming out of quarantine next week. I plan on starting to restock more shrimp (been focusing on breeding my own, only) as well as some more asian species including...

New critters doing great!

The new critters are largely doing great! The orange otos didn’t import well, but rest assured I will try again in early January! I am STILL shipping, though may not much past this upcoming Monday, as I don’t want boxes to be delayed because of the impending holiday season. That being said, I DO plan on ordering more shrimp, snails, and small fishes soon, so now is the time to let me know what your little heart desires! Here are a...

A long overdue picture update!

A long overdue picture update!

I have been traveling a great deal this summer. Because of that, I have not been home enough to order many critters, or to photograph them. I am home this entire month, and am working on getting updates on a lot of the fish and invertebrates in the fish room. There are several species right now that are on super sale, which can be found on my current stocklist. I have a bunch of new stuff to add to my stocklist, and endeavor to have that done...

Playing with my f-stop-more shots from the fish room

Playing with my f-stop-more shots from the fish room

I have been conversing with a few photo friends, trying to improve my images so I took a couple more shots around the fish room today. Some are better than others, but I am especially pleased at how they show the growing color in the Pyrrhulina spilota, which I recently featured in a species spotlight. They get very nice blue edging to their fins, visible in these shots. There are also a few pictures, while not the best shots, showcase the...

Pyrrhulina spilota- Species spotlight

Pyrrhulina spilota- Species spotlight

This fish is undoubtedly uncommon, despite its classification by Weitzman in the 60’s. It is rarely imported, and rarely as the correct fish or in good health. They are a very interesting, albeit subtly flashy, fish.  Often, when fish from Peru are imported, there is little information provided about their collection point both because the collector is being proprietary or they just don’t know, as the fish are acquired second-hand....
