Some new livestock and some fish updates

Things have been busy, busy, busy- as always! I picked up some new critters this week, and still have some new guys left to photograph in the next day or so as they settle in. Added to the fish room this week are Microdevario kubotai, Sawbwa resplendens, Nannostomus eques, Hemigrammus bleheri, Panaqolus maccus, and some restock of a few things. I am also getting ready to set up my breeding bins in the yard, so snapped a few picture of some of...

The Peru order has arrived! Some things I expected, and some surprises!

Many of you know that I have been waiting, not so patiently, for an order to arrive from Peru for a few months now. At long last, it has arrived! There are a TON of fish, many of which are completely new to me, and I am still figuring out the identification of a few. I have gotten restock of Otocinclus cocama, though not many, and also have Hypoptopoma sp. Peru orange again (the orange zebra). I am also SUPER pleased by a tiny little...

The cocama have landed!

The cocama have landed!

I got my first installment of my Peru orders yesterday. Nannostomus mortenthaleri and Otocinclus cf. cocama. They look great! They are already eating well and coloring up beautifully. The otos are an atypical pattern, so I am referring to them as cf. cocama while I wait for confirmation on their exact species. They are being fed Repashy Soilent Green and Xtreme cat scrapers and are active and happy. The pencils are pretty tiny still, just over...

Back in action! A few photos!

It has been longer than I would like since I updated the website last. I do apologize! Between the stressors of Super Storm Sandy (luckily we were largely unaffected), the cold snap that followed, multiple fish related travels, and club meetings- I have been SWAMPED! Things have settled down, and I am ordering again. You may have noticed my stock list was a little slim. I am doing much to remedy this! First up, a new order from Peru. The first...

A selection of feeding shots- Repashy Superfoods

It has been awhile since I posted about feeding the foods in the fishroom, so I figured I would take a few minutes just to show how I like to use the foods best. My two favorite diets are the Soilent Green (aufwuchs replacement) and the Shrimp Souffle (mollusk based scavenger diet high in carotenoids). These are the two diets that I feed the most in the tanks right now. The soilent green is given to all my fish with herbivorous tendencies and...

New livestock- it has been a busy few weeks!

I have been a busy busy girl, picking up freight from multiple airports over the past few weeks. While there were some disappointments (my India shipment of caridina cf. babaulti and dario did not come in) there were also some high points. I picked up a species I have not kept before, Aspidora pauciradiatus. They are almost painfully cute, behaving in a very similar fashion to dwarf corydoras. I also was able to get more C. habrosus, P....

The first batch of Otocinclus cocama are ready to go!

The first group of Otocinclus cocama has just finished an extended¬† quarantine and are now ready for their forever homes, just in time for Valentine’s Day! What better gift for the fishkeeper you adore! Limited availability from this first group, but fear not as I have another group due to hit the country this Sunday!      ...
